Sandeep Rath
I am an Assistant Professor of Operations Management at the Indian School of Business, and formerly on the faculty at the Kenan-Flagler Business School, UNC Chapel Hill (2016–2025). My work sits at the intersection of operations research, clinical AI, and health systems—translating rigorous quantitative methods into tools that hospitals and health technology firms can actually deploy.
Over the past decade, I have partnered with major health systems—the Veterans Health Administration, UCLA Ronald Reagan Medical Center, UNC Health, and the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center—to build and implement models for surgical scheduling, workforce planning, care coordination, and OR efficiency. These deployments have generated millions of dollars in documented annual savings. My methods span mixed-integer optimization, machine learning, causal inference, dynamic programming, and simulation.
My research has been recognized with the Bullard Faculty Research Impact Award (UNC, 2024) and as a finalist for the INFORMS Innovative Application in Analytics Award. My research is published in Operations Research, Production and Operations Management, and Manufacturing & Service Operations Management.
Beyond academic research, I advise early-stage health technology companies on clinical AI strategy, product development, and workflow integration. On the policy side, I work with government and industry bodies to advance healthcare digitization and AI adoption.
My detailed academic CV is available here and a brief resume is available here.
